MSU Hockey Drops To Fifth in USA Today Rankings

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State hockey team fell one spot to fifth place in this week's USA Today/American Hockey Magazine poll but held onto the fourth spot in the latest U.S. College Hockey Online rankings. This week's national polls were released Monday (Nov. 12).
The Spartans, fresh off a non-conference win against Mass.-Amherst at Munn Ice Arena last Friday, dropped to fifth in the USA Today/American Hockey Magazine poll with 208 points. Minnesota reclaimed the nation's No. 1 ranking, earning 276 points and 13 first-place votes. Denver, with 263 points and five first-place votes, jumps to the second spot while St. Cloud State, last week's top-ranked team, fell to third. Boston University is ranked fourth. Other CCHA schools in the USA Today/American Hockey Magazine poll are Northern Michigan (sixth), Nebraska-Omaha (seventh), Michigan (12th), Miami (13th) and Ohio State and Alaska Fairbanks (receiving votes).
MSU stayed in fourth place in the USCHO rankings - the Spartans earned 462 points and one first-place vote. As in the USA Today poll, Minnesota, Denver and St. Cloud State are the top three teams according to USCHO voters. Boston University completes the top five. Other CCHA teams in the USCHO poll are Northern Michigan (sixth), Nebraska-Omaha (seventh), Michigan (12th) and Miami, Ohio State and Western Michigan (receiving votes).
