EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State's Ryan Miller (East Lansing, Mich.) has been named Central Collegiate Hockey Association Defensive Player of the Week for Dec. 10.
The junior goaltender led the Spartans to a two-game sweep over then no.-8 Northern Michigan, stopping 38 of 40 shots he faced in Friday's 4-2 MSU win and making 41 saves - one short of his career high - in a 3-0 shutout of the Wildcats Saturday. The 2001 Hobey Baker Memorial Award winner now has six shutouts on the season and an NCAA-record 24 for his career.
Miller currently leads the CCHA and ranks third nationally with a 1.55 goals against average in addition to a 12-3-2 record and a .944 saves percentage, which is also third best among NCAA Division I goalies. In his last 10 games, Miller is 8-1-1 with a 1.11 goals against average and a .965 saves percentage.
The Spartans are in the midst of a three-week holiday break. They resume play Dec. 28-29, when they take part in the 37th annual Great Lakes Invitational at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.
