MSU Softball Falls To No. 6 Arizona State, 11-0

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Michigan State softball team fell to No. 6 Arizona State, 11-0, Friday night (Feb. 16) in the Arizona State/Louisville Slugger Classic. MSU, who lost earlier in the day to BYU, falls to 0-2, while ASU improves to 7-1.
After two scoreless innings, the Sun Devils scored three runs in the third on four hits. ASU answered with another run in the fourth to increase the lead to 4-0.
Arizona State broke the game open in the sixth and seventh innings, scoring seven runs on four hits, including a three-run homer by Kristin Swetel. Phelen Wright led the way for the Sun Devils offensively, going 3-for-3 with three runs scored.
ASU held the Spartan offense to just one hit on seven strikeouts. Erica Beach pitched six innings for the Devils en route to her fifth victory of the season.
Becky Gray (0-1) started on the mound for MSU, going 6.1 innings giving up eight runs on 11 hits.
Michigan State returns to action Saturday (Feb. 17) at 11:00 a.m. PST facing Illinois State.
