Softball Defeats Central Michigan, 1-0

TAMPA, Fla. - The Michigan State softball team picked up its first victory of the season against Central Michigan, 1-0, Monday morning (March 5) at the University of South Florida softball complex in Tampa. MSU improves to 1-10, while the Chippewas fall to 4-7.
Becky Gray (Jr., Burr Oak, Mich.) threw a complete game shutout, allowing four hits while striking out five. Gray (1-4) now has seven career shutouts, which is tied for seventh-best all-time at MSU.
The Spartans scored the game's only run in the bottom of the fifth. Demita Clark (Sr., Detroit, Mich.) started the rally off with a one-out walk. Theresa Pusateri (Fr., Homewood, Ill.) then pinch-ran for Clark and stole second on the next pitch. After a failed sacrifice attempt for the second out, Robyn Golden (So., Romulus, Mich.) hit a single to center field, scoring Pusateri for the game-winning run. Golden finished the game 2-for-3 with six putouts.
Jenni Rasmussen (0-3) took the loss for CMU, scattering three hits in 4 2/3 innings of work.
Michigan State returns to action later this afternoon (March 5) to face the Temple Owls (4-7) at 3:00 p.m.
