Three Spartans Earn CCHA All-Academic Honors

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State's Joe Blackburn, Brad Fast and Adam Hall today received CCHA all-Academic honorable mention status as the league announced its top performers in the classroom.
Blackburn, a Livonia, Mich., native, is a senior goaltender majoring in special education and carries a 3.19 grade-point average. The 1999 first-team All-America selection owns 2-0-0 record, a 1.00 GAA and a .966 saves percentage this season.
Hall, a junior from Kalamazoo, Mich., is a finance major who owns a 3.29 GPA. The junior among the Spartans' leaders in goals (16) and points (26) this season.
Fast, who hails from Fort St. John, B.C., is a general business administration major who holds a 3.50 grade-point average. On the ice, the sophomore defenseman leads Spartan blueliners in scoring with four goals and 19 assists for 23 points.
Five other MSU skaters earned CCHA all-Academic special mention honors. They were senior center Andrew Bogle, sophomore center Troy Ferguson, junior center Joe Goodenow, sophomore goaltender Ryan Miller and senior wing Damon Whitten.
First-team all-conference academic honors went to senior forward Dan Carlson of Notre Dame, senior defenseman Jim Dube of Ferris State, senior forward David Gove of Western Michigan, junior defenseman Jeff Jillson of Michigan, senior forward Jim Lawrence of Alaska-Fairbanks, senior forward Curtis Valentine of Bowling Green and a pair of Nebraska-Omaha skaters -- senior forward David Noel-Bernier and junior defenseman Daniel Samuelsson.
To be eligible for consideration, a player must have completed at least one academic year and have a 3.00 grade-point average on a 4.00 scale. The top six vote-getters, regardless of position, are named to the all-Academic team with others receiving votes earning honorable mention. All nominated players receive special mention.
