EAST LANSING, Mich. - Terry Jackson became the first Golden Gopher to run for 200 yards in consecutive games as Minnesota beat the Michigan State 28-7 Saturday for its third straight win and best record since 1961.
Minnesota (7-1, 3-1 Big Ten) scored 28 unanswered points, after giving up a touchdown on the opening possession, for its first win at Spartan Stadium since 1976. Michigan State (3-4, 1-2) has won only one of its last five games.
Jackson ran for 238 yards on 29 carries and set Minnesota's two-game rushing record with 477 yards. When the native of Saginaw, Mich., wasn't running over and past the Spartans, Thomas Tapeh did. Tapeh ran for 147 yards and a TD.
Asad Abdul-Khaliq threw a 45-yard TD pass to Aaron Hosack to tie the game at 7 midway through the first quarter. He lofted a 27-yard TD pass perfectly over Tony Patterson's shoulder and made a 2-point conversion pass to cap the first drive of the second half and put the Gophers ahead 21-7.
Michigan State's Charles Rogers caught six passes for 96 yards and was held without a TD for a second straight game after setting an NCAA record with TDs in 13 consecutive regular season games. Jeff Smoker was 17-of-29 for 229 yards and an interception.
