Softball Drops Two At Louisville Slugger Classic

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Michigan State softball team lost its opening games of the season as it fell to Oklahoma State, 14-1, and Illinois State, 8-0, Friday afternoon (Feb. 15) in first-day action of the Louisville Slugger Classic hosted by Arizona State University.
In game one, OSU (6-0) used a 13-run outburst in the fourth inning to break open a scoreless contest. The Cowgirls had two home runs and nine hits in the inning. OSU tacked on another run in the fifth to make it 14-0. MSU preserved the shutout, however, as Robyn Golden (Jr., Romulus, Mich./Belleville) blasted a solo shot over the left-center field fence to give the Spartans their lone run of the game.
Jessica Beech (So., Okemos, Mich./Okemos) threw four innings and gave up six runs on six hits in the loss.
Illinois State's Andrea Rast shut out and held the Spartans hitless in the second game of the afternoon. Rast tossed five innings and struck out eight batters.
Redbird outfielder Cutie Taylor went 3-for-3 with two home runs and three RBI for ISU (2-4).
Michigan State (0-2) returns to action tomorrow (Saturday, Feb. 16) to face No. 6 Iowa at 11 a.m. and No. 8 Arizona State at 3:30 p.m.
