No. 21 Michigan State Wrestling Falls to No. 2 Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The No. 21 Michigan State wrestling team lost to No. 2 Michigan, 29-7, Sunday (Feb. 24) at Cliff Keen Arena. The Spartans fall to 5-11 overall and 2-6 in Big Ten competition.
The meet began at 184 pounds where No. 1 Andy Hrovat of Michigan won a 16-6 major decision over Nathaniel Mesyn (So., Clinton Twp.) At 197 pounds, No. 5 Kyle Smith edged No. 19 John Wechter (Jr., Saginaw), 15-13, in sudden victory overtime.
In the heavyweight match, Michigan State's Michael Keenan (So., Columbus, Ohio) lost a 10-3 decision to No. 12 Matt Brink of Michigan.
No. 14 Chris Williams (Sr., Perry), attempting to win his 99th career match at Michigan State, lost a 6-0 decision to No. 9 A.J. Grant.
At 133 pounds, Michigan's Foley Dowd earned a 22-7 technical fall over Scott Pushman (Fr., Fenton), which gave Michigan a commanding 18-0 lead.
The Spartans posted their first victory of the afternoon in the 141-pound match, as Charles Sageman (Jr., Saginaw) scored an 11-3 major decision over Nick Velissaris.
Michigan won the next two matches at 149 and 157 pounds. No. 6 Mike Kulczycki defeated Matt McCarty (Fr., Clarksville, Tenn.) and No. 5 Ryan Bertin downed No. 13 Karl Nadolsky (Jr., Holland). Despite Nadolsky's two escapes, he lost a hotly contested sudden victory overtime match, 9-7.
In another sudden victory overtime match, Michigan State's Anton Hall (Jr., Ada) defeated No. 13 Charles Martelli, 6-4.
The final match of the afternoon went to No. 1 Otto Olson of Michigan. Olson's 13-3 major decision ended No. 16 Rashad Evans' (Jr., Niagara Falls, N.Y.) seven-match winning streak.
Michigan State returns to action Friday (March 1), as they travel to Norman, Okla. to take on the No.6 Oklahoma Sooners at 7:30 p.m. In Michigan State's final meet of the regular season, senior Chris Williams will attempt to win his 99th career match.
