Miller Repeats As MSU Hockey MVP

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Junior goaltender Ryan Miller (East Lansing, Mich.) was named the Michigan State hockey Most Valuable Player for the second straight year at the 2002 Spartan Hockey Awards Banquet at the Holiday Inn South in Lansing tonight.
Miller, who also earned the Amo Bessone Award for athletic, scholastic and community participation, finished his junior campaign with a 26-9-5 record, a 1.77 goals against average, a .936 saves percentage and eight shutouts, extending his NCAA record for career blankings to 26 in the process. He led the nation's netminders in shutouts, ranked second in wins and minutes played, third in goals against average and tied for third in saves percentage. In CCHA play, Miller was 18-6-4 and led the league with a 1.64 goals against average and a .941 saves percentage.
Senior wing Adam Hall (Kalamazoo, Mich.), who took home three awards, was the night's only other multiple winner. The 2001-02 team captain was named the team's Outstanding Offensive Player, won the Blue Line Club President's Award as the senior class's top scholar-athlete and captured the Bill Burgess Outstanding Senior Award.
Ron Scott was honored with the Distinguished Alumnus Award. The Guelph, Ont., native, who lettered as a goaltender from 1981-83, was a first-team All-American and Academic All-American in 1982 and 1983. He ranks among MSU's top 10 in six career goaltending categories - wins, goals against average, saves, saves percentage, shutouts and games played - and enjoyed an eight-year professional career that included stints with the New York Rangers and Los Angeles Kings.
