STOCKBRIDGE, Mich. - And the winner is .... Michigan. The Village of Stockbridge, the approximate halfway point between Ann Arbor and East Lansing if one is able to draw a straight line, was the site of a coin flip on Wednesday afternoon (July 11) to determine one home regular-season Central Collegiate Hockey Association contest between Michigan State and Michigan.
"This is my first official act as hockey coach," said MSU head coach Rick Comley. "It is also my first time as part of this storied rivalry, but it is very much a sign of what it means to each school. It is fun that a game of this magnitude is being decided by a coin toss."
Ken Moffit, the President of the Village of Stockbridge, flipped the coin, which featured an "S" logo on one side and a "M" logo on the other. The coin was flipped with Comley, MSU athletics director Ron Mason, U-M head coach Red Berenson and U-M athletics director Bill Martin in attendance. When the coin landed on the ground, it was the "M" logo that prevailed.
