Coaches Quotes
Northwestern Coach Bill Carmody
"I thought Michigan State played a very good second half. I didn't think either team played particularly well in the first half. I know we had 10 turnovers in each half. I think they had 11 (turnovers) for the game. I don't know in the first half what they had, but neither team to me seemed to be executing very well. Then in the second half, they did execute. It was probably toward the end of the second half, but they started playing a little bit better. They did a very good job defensively on our center (Aaron Jennings), and he is real important to us. I didn't think he got too many good looks the entire game. A couple of times in the first half, we got the ball down to him. He was able to score but overall, I thought that (Aloysius) Anagonye and (Erazem) Lorbek did a very good job on him. Lorbek just seems as if his arms are always in front of him and he is a good player."
Michigan State Coach Tom Izzo
"It wasn't the prettiest game, but we felt we had to get a win. I thought we started out a little slow and a lot of that credit goes to Northwestern. Their match-up gave us some problems. We didn't get off to a very good start energy wise, I didn't think, especially from the opening tip."
"We battled back in the second half. Our defense was pretty good all day as far as stopping their back cuts. It's hard to play them because there are no secrets. I think Bill (Carmody) does a great job with that team and I think they have some players that are starting to learn that system more and more."
"I was pleased with the second half, I thought (Kelvin) Torbert for 30 minutes played as well as he's played since he has been here. (Aloysius) Anagonye really played a lot better. We had a lot of guys that just played okay. We'll have to play a lot better if we expect to go down to Illinois and give them a ballgame."
"Good win but we still have a lot of work to do."
