At 200-86 as Michigan State's head coach, Tom Izzo is just the eighth coach in NCAA history to record 200 wins in nine seasons as a head coach. Jud Heathcote (340 wins) and Benjamin VanAlstyne (232 wins) are currently the only two other coaches to record 200 victories at Michigan State. Izzo's 100th win came on Jan. 11, 2000, with a 77-71 overtime win against Indiana in East Lansing. The seven other coaches who have managed 200 wins in their first nine seasons at the helm are: Roy Williams, Kansas (247); Everett Case, N.C. State (241); Denny Crum, Louisville (219); Jerry Tarkarnian, Long Beach State & UNLV (218); John Calipari, Memphis & UMass (210); Tubby Smith, Kentucky, Georgia & Tulsa (210); and Jim Boeheim, Syracuse (204).
Michigan State is shooting 58.4 percent (104-of-178) from the field in the second half in its eight Big Ten Conference games this season.
Michigan State's 50 points in the first half marked its largest first-half offensive output of the season. MSU's previous high was 43 against Kentucky on Dec. 13, 2003. Additionally, the first-half output marked the second consecutive half in which the Spartans scored 50 points, as they did so in the second half against Indiana (Jan. 31).
In the last 10 games, Chris Hill is shooting .547 (52-of-95) from the field and .516 (32-of-62) from beyond the arc.
State's 89 points scored in the game tie the most points it has scored in 2003-04 (DePaul, Nov. 30, 2003).
At 6-2 in the Big Ten, MSU is off to its best start in the league since 2001 when it opened with an identical mark.
