+ With the loss, MSU finished the season with a 23-17-2 overall mark. The 2003-04 season marks the 13th straight year that State has recorded 20 or more wins in a season.
+ MSU played 42 games this season, the most games played by the squad since the 2000-01 season when State also played 42 contests. The school record for games played in a season is 47, set in 1988-89 (37-9-1 overall record).
+ State has not scored a goal in the post-season since the 5:42 mark of the third period of the March 25, 2001 NCAA Regional game vs. Wisconsin (the goal was scored by Rustyn Dolyny). MSU's current scoreless stretch in NCAA Tournament play is 194:18.
+ Junior netminder Matt Migliaccio, who came in relief of freshman netminder Dominic Vicari, stopped 12 shots. It marked Migliaccio's first action since Feb. 14 at Alaska Fairbanks, a 3-2 Spartan victory.
+ When allowing the first goal, the Spartans are 6-12-1 overall. UMD scored the first goal en route to a 5-0 victory. However, the Spartans finished the season 17-5-1 when scoring the first goal of the game.
+ Michigan State, which tallied 11 goals in its two-game sweep of Ferris State in the CCHA First-Round Playoffs (March 12-13), scored just one goal in the next two games. State tallied one goal in a 2-1 loss to Northern Michigan in the CCHA Super Six Quarterfinals (March 18) and didn't register a goal in the Midwest Regional First Round vs. Minnesota-Duluth (March 27).
+ The last time MSU trailed by five goals or more was Oct. 17, 2003 against Ohio State in East Lansing.
+ Today is the sixth time this season that MSU has allowed five or more goals (1-4-0).
+ MSU's 23 shots were the fewest since a Jan. 3, 2004 loss to Northern Michigan when State also had 23 shots.
+ The Spartans made their 23rd appearance in the NCAA Tournament today and the team's first since the 2001-02 season. MSU's 23 appearances rank fifth all-time in NCAA history.
+ MSU head coach Rick Comley is one of 12 coaches to coach two different schools in the NCAA Tournament (Northern Michigan and Michigan State). Current MSU Athletics Director and former hockey coach Ron Mason also accomplished this feat (Bowling Green and Michigan State).
