Simmons Named 2003-04 MSU Outstanding Wrestler

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State freshman wrestler Andy Simmons earned the Outstanding Wrestler and Outstanding Freshman Awards at the MSU wrestling team banquet after posting a 31-11 season record. Simmons led the team in wins and recorded five falls on the year.
Senior Nate Mesyn earned the Collins-Mikles Leadership Award. "Andy Simmons had a superb freshman season with 31 wins and a trip to the NCAAs," said head coach Tom Minkel. "He'll do nothing but get better. Beyond that, Nate Mesyn has been an outstanding leader for our team, both on and off the mat. We'll certainly miss him."
Spencer Nadolsky earned the Most Falls Award, with a 13-9 record and six falls on the season. Mike Keenan was named the team's Most Exciting Wrestler, while Darren McKnight earned the Tom Muir Most Improved Award. Matt McCarty was named Most Committed, while Jeff Clemens earned the Perseverance Award. Finally, Shane Martin took home the team's Grady Peninger Scholastic Achievement Award.
