EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State sophomore Matt Harmon (Grand Rapids, Mich.) has qualified for the 2004 U.S. Amateur Championship, which will be held at the famed Winged Foot Country Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y., from Aug. 16-22.
Harmon qualified after shooting a 140 (71-69) and finishing second at sectional qualifying at the Warren Golf Course on the University of Notre Dame campus in South Bend, Ind., on Wednesday, July 21.
"I go into every tournament the same," said Harmon. "I'm going out there to win. Anything can happen in match play."
The U.S. Amateur Championship, which is the oldest USGA Championship, was first played in 1895 at the Newport Golf Club in Rhode Island.
