Spartans Sign Two To National Letters Of Intent

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State women's basketball head coach Joanne P. McCallie announced Wednesday afternoon the signing of Allyssa DeHaan (Grandville, Mich./Grandville HS) and Amanda Piechowski (Shelby Township, Mich./Utica HS) to National Letters of Intent to attend MSU and play for the Spartans in 2006-07.
Below is a look at each of the signees:
Allyssa DeHaan 6-8 C Grandville, Mich./Grandville HS
DeHaan ranks among the top 25 centers in the nation by All-Star Girls Report...a candidate for the Michigan Miss Basketball Award...through 19 games, she's averaging 24.1 points, 8.9 blocks and 8.3 rebounds a game...has led Grandville to an 18-1 record and a No. 4 ranking in Class A...named first-team all-state the past two seasons...also an all-league (OK Red) selection the past three seasons...averaged 27 points, 13 rebounds and nearly 10 blocked shots a game her junior year, leading Grandville to the state quarterfinals for the first time in program history...named to The Grand Rapids Press all-area team two years running...set the Michigan single-season blocks record with 236 her junior season...has a 3.85 GPA and plans to major in pre-med.
Amanda Piechowski 5-9 G Shelby Township, Mich./Utica HS
Piechowski (PIE-OW-SKI) was rated the No. 2 player in Michigan by The Detroit News and the No. 6 player by the Detroit Free Press heading into this season...also named a Street & Smith's honorable mention All-American prior to the season...averaging 18 points, five assists, five rebounds and four steals through 18 games this season...named a WXYZ Scholar-Athlete of the Week earlier this year...earned All-Macomb Area Conference (Red Division) honors her first three years...team MVP her first three years...named all-county and all-metro by the Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News all three years, including first-team honors her junior year...Associated Press first-team all-state her junior year...team captain her junior and senior years...averaged 13 points a game her freshman year, 15 points her sophomore year and 16.5 points her junior year...member of the National Honors Society...has a 3.9 GPA and plans to major in secondary education.
