East Lansing, Mich. - The Michigan State men's ice hockey team wrapped up a rollercoaster first-half of the schedule with a three-point weekend at Alaska Fairbanks. The Spartans are currently 7-7-5 overall, with a 4-5-4 record in CCHA play. MSU opened the season 5-1-1, a mark which included impressive victories over Cornell and North Dakota and a draw in the season's first meeting with Michigan, before succumbing to an eight-game winless streak. The Spartans are back on the winning track and head into the holiday's with a 2-1-1 record in their last four.
The hockey team will now break for nineteen days, allowing players and coaches to enjoy the holidays with family and friends, before regrouping Dec. 26 in preperation for the second half of the season.
The second half begins Dec. 29, at the Great Lakes Invitational, with a 4:35 p.m. match-up vs. host Michigan Tech. The Spartans will face-off against Michigan or Colorado College, on Dec. 30, at either 4:35 p.m. or 8:35 p.m. Michigan State is the defending champion in the event, having knocked of New Hampshire and Michigan last season to claim the tournament crown.
The Green and White have 19 regular-season games remaining on the schedule, including three with the arch-rival Wolverines, before opening up the CCHA playoffs on Mar. 3.
