EAST LANSING, Mich. -
The Michigan State Gymnastics team is tied with Kentucky for 22nd in the 2007 GymInfo Preseason Coaches Poll released on Dec. 1. The Spartans have not been ranked in the preseason poll since 2004.
"Having not been ranked since the 2004 preseason poll, we are thrilled that our fellow coaches recognize the improvement in our program," Spartan head coach Kathie Klages said. "With the success of last season, combined with the expertise of new hire Randy Lane and the outstanding freshmen class, we anticipate a very exciting season ahead for MSU gymnastics."
The Spartans ended the 2006 season with a second-place finish at the Big Ten Championship Meet and a trip to the NCAA Central Regionals held on the campus of Louisiana State University. The regional meet appearance was the 15th in Spartan history, and the eighth under Klages. Michigan State returns eight letterwinners and brings seven newcomers to the gym for the 2007 season, while associate head coach Randy Lane will also make his debut with the Green and White staff.
The Michigan State gymnastics program will hold its annual Green and White meet on Friday, Dec. 8, in the third floor practice facility at Jenison Field House. Admission is free to the event.
