EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State's Jonathon Allen has been selected for the 2007 NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships in the triple jump, as announced by the Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee on Monday, March 5. The Championships will be held in Fayetteville, Ark., on Friday, March 9-10, on the campus of Arkansas.
Allen, a sophomore from Lansing, qualified provisionally at the Meyo Invitational on March 3 with a school record, and personal-best distance of 15.90 meters (52-2).
The Sexton High School graduate will compete in a field of 15 jumpers and enters the competition as the No. 8 seed. The pack is led by Cornell's Muhammad Halim, who posted the only automatic-qualifying distance with a 16.21 meter (53 2¼) jump.
This will be Allen's first appearance at the Indoor Championships, but he is no stranger to NCAA meets. During his freshman campaign he finished in 17th place in the triple jump with a mark of 14.30 meters (46-11), at the 2006 NCAA Mideast Regional Championships during the outdoor season (there is no regional meet for the indoor season).
The triple jump is scheduled for Saturday, March 10 at 6:15 p.m. Results for the NCAA Indoor Championships will be available on www.ladybacks.com. For a complete recap, please visit www.msuspartans.com.
