Gymnastics Takes Third At Chicago Style Invitational

The Michigan State gymnastics squad finished third with a score of 194.400 at the IGI Chicago Style Invitational on Saturday evening at Navy Pier. No. 14 Illinois took first place with a 195.100, while No. 24 Boise State was second with a score of 194.775. Illinois-Chicago finished fourth with a 193.275. Junior Rochelle Robinson (Chesapeake, Va.) led the Spartans, posting a career-high 9.900 on the uneven bars, finishing first overall on the event. MSU claimed event titles on three of the five events and three Spartans set career-highs.
For the first rotation, the Spartans started on balance beam, recording a 47.900. Junior Nicole Curler (Bay City, Mich.) posted a team-high 9.750 and sophomore Kelsey Morley (Elkhart, Ind.) tallied a 9.725 on the apparatus.
MSU then moved to floor exercise, recording a season-high 48.825. Junior Emily Lopatofsky (Waymart, Pa.) notched a season-high 9.875 to finish first overall on the event. Senior Katlyn Roggensack (Wheaton, Ill.) tied her career-high (9.825) on floor to finish second overall and sophomore Kathyrn Mahoney (Western Springs, Ill.) notched a season-high 9.800.
Rotation three put the Spartans on vault, where they finished with a season-high 49.025. Roggensack set a career-high with a 9.925 to finish first overall for the second time in her career. Sophomore Nicole Argiros (Livonia, Mich.) also set a career-high on vault with a 9.875 while Robinson posted a 9.850.
The Spartans finished the meet on uneven bars, tallying a 48.650. Robinson set a career-high on the event with a 9.900, giving her top honors. Argiros and freshman Jackie Berg (Tinley Park, Ill.) both recorded a 9.725 on the apparatus.
MSU returns to East Lansing, Mich. for a dual meet with No. 8 Florida on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 2 p.m.
