Softball Heads To North and South Carolina

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State softball team begins its annual spring break trip on Saturday, March 7 with the Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C. The Spartans then travel to Raleigh for a doubleheader with NC State on March 10 before facing UNC-Wilmington on March 11. MSU wraps up the trip in Myrtle Beach, S.C., with the Coastal Carolina tournament. Live stats for all games will be available on www.msuspartans.com.

Seniors Gina Mondo and Kara Weigle lead the team with a .452 and .447 batting average, respectively.
MSU is 20-on-22 in stolen base attempts this season, with Gina Mondo leading the team with six stolen bases.
The Spartans have 114 assists in 12 games. Lindsey Hansen leads the team with 28 assists.
Junior Kelly Confer has started five games in the circle for the Spartans, posting a 3-1 overall record.
Sophomores Heidi Purtzer and Karen Fox and freshman Ali Grant lead the team in fielding percentage. All three have not committed an error in MSU's 12 games.
MSU recorded 23 runs on 24 hits at the Magic City Classic last weekend.
Kara Weigle, Lindsey Hansen, Jessica Bracamonte, Ali Grant and Melanie Bensema have started all 12 games for MSU.
The Spartans will face Georgetown for the second time this season at the Tar Heel Invitational. MSU recorded a 10-2 win in five innings over the Hoyas at the season-opening Blue and Gold Felsberg Memorial Tournament.
MSU and UNC-Wilmington will meet for the first time in school history on March 11.
