Ann Arbor, Mich. - For Michigan State, a week of talk about skating in an outdoor game got a lot closer to reality this afternoon. The Spartans got on the ice at Michigan Stadium for the first time on Friday afternoon, and are excited about their showdown with archrival Michigan on Saturday afternoon.
Spirits were high among the group, which bundled up for their first outdoor practice - but mild temperatures in the mid-30s found lots of them stripping off some of the extra layers as practice wore on. The timing of practice - 4 p.m. - gave the team a good idea what sun conditions will be during the middle of tomorrow's game.
"Everyone is excited, and everyone had a ball out there today," noted captain Torey Krug in the post-practice press conference. "Lots of smiles and laughing. But we all know that we'll come back tomorrow morning for skate, and it's all business. Its a big game and there's a lot on the line for both teams."
