
Softball Stumbles at Indiana, Falls 6-4

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Michigan State softball team (16-18, 2-3 Big Ten) traveled to Bloomington, Ind. , for its first road game of the Big Ten season against Indiana. The Spartans fell 6-4 to IU in the opening game of the weekend series.
Trailing the Spartans 4-1, IU used a five-run fifth inning to storm past the Green and White. The Hoosiers got on the board with their second run of the game when Jennifer Glueckert hit into a fielders choice to score Breanna Saucedo. With the bases loaded, Cassie Gogreve closed out the five-run inning when she hit a four-run homer to center to gain the 6-4 lead over the Spartans.
MSU scored first in the opening frame when sophomore Lauren Kramer belted a two-run homer to left field to knock in junior Jessica Bracamonte, who reached base on a walk.
Indiana cut the Spartan lead in half when Kristin King crossed home plate off a MSU passed ball.
Michigan State brought its lead to three when it made the score 4-1. Junior Lindsey Hansen got the scoring started for MSU when she hit a double to left-center field to score freshman Jenny Ramsaier. Bracamonte singled to left to score Hansen.
Earning the win for Indiana was Sara Olson (5-9) who tossed a complete game, striking out six batters. Kramer (12-9) took the loss for MSU in two innings of relief work.
MSU will once again battle Indiana tomorrow (April 11) when the two schools complete the weekend series with a game slated to begin at 1 p.m.
