
Softball Stumbles in Game One at Wisconsin

MADISON, Wis. - The Michigan State softball team opened its season series against Wisconsin on Friday, May 14, with a 6-1 loss to the Badgers. MSU falls to 20-31 overall and 4-15 in the conference, while UW is now 20-30 on the year and 5-12 in Big Ten games. Sophomore Lauren Kramer broke up Wisconsin's Letty Olivarez no-hitter with a home run in the top of the seventh inning.
Shannel Blackshear got the scoring started for Wisconsin in the bottom of the opening frame with a single up the middle, scoring Jennifer Krueger who reached base off a single her of own. UW ended the first inning with a 1-0 lead over the Spartans.
The Badgers opened the game with a pair of two-run innings in the second and the fifth innings. Krueger recorded a triple to right field to post two RBIs in the second, scoring Kelsey Horton and Olivarez from first and third, respectively.
Olivarez posted a leadoff single in the bottom of the fourth, her first homer of the game..
UW posted its second two-run inning when Blackshear hit a homer to right field and Olivarez followed two batters later with her second solo shot of the game.
Kramer posted MSU's lone run and hit in the top of the seventh inning to bring the score to 6-1.
Kramer also was the pitcher of record for the Spartans, falling to 15-19 on the season. Olivarez improved to 13-22 on the rubber for UW.
The Spartans will face UW in its regular season finale tomorrow, Saturday, May 15 at 1 p.m. ET.
