Spartans head to Pennsylvania for Two Non-Conference Duals

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State wrestling travels to Pennsylvania to take on both Lock Haven and Bucknell on Saturday, Dec. 3., at their respective campuses.
The Spartans will first take on Lock Haven at 12 p.m. in Lock Haven, Pa., and then go to Lewisburg, Pa., to face the Bison of Bucknell at 7 p.m.
"It is not terribly difficult," head coach Tom Minkel said of having two duals in the same day. "We have been wrestling a lot of tournaments and you have three, four or five matches in a day. The difficulty here is that we have to travel in between, but traveling that far away, we really want to get more than just one match in."
The Spartans bring three ranked wrestlers by InterMat into both matches on Saturday. Ranked wrestlers include No. 18 Dan Osterman (149), No.18 Tyler Dickenson (197) and No.17 Michael McClure (HWT).
Last season Michigan State defeated Lock Haven 28-12 at the Spartan Duals, and MSU is 2-0 all-time in duals against Lock Haven. Both Dan Osterman and Michael McClure could face rematches from a season ago. Osterman will face Owen Wilkinson at 149 pounds, and came away with an 8-2 decision when they met last season. McClure could face Harry Turner at heavyweight, whom he pinned in 2:09 last year's dual.
MSU has never faced off against Bucknell but there will be a familiar face on the Bison bench Saturday. Bucknell head coach Dan Wirnsberger wrestled for Michigan State from 1990-1995 and was a three-time All-American for the Spartans. Wirnsberger compiled a record of 120-44, the third-most wins in Spartan history. Wirnsberger posted a 35-8 record and was the Big Ten Champion and NCAA runner-up at 158 pounds in 1995, his senior season.
"Dan was one of our most successful wrestlers here," Minkel said. "He is an NCAA finalist, was one of our captains, and was just a real force for us when he was here and he is a marvelous coach as well. Dan is a great guy, and I am looking forward to competing against him."
