Wrestling Takes Down The Citadel

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Michigan State wrestling finished its road trip on Sunday, December 7 with a 21-14 victory over The Citadel at McAlister Field House.
A win on Sunday improves MSU's record to 3-1 on the season ahead of its home opening dual against American on Thursday, December 18 at Jenison Field House.
Michigan State's ranked wrestlers wasted no time getting the Spartans on the board with a pair of early bonus point wins. Redshirt junior Kael Wisler picked up a 15-1 major decision at 197 pounds and redshirt sophomore heavyweight Max Vanadia won by tech fall, 19-4. Redshirt junior Nick Corday took out former national qualifier Gylon Sims by decision, 6-0, at 125 pounds.
MSU led 12-0 in team score before back-to-back Citadel victories cut the Spartan advantage to 12-8 after the 133 and 141-pound bouts.
Making his second career dual appearance, freshman Evan Gosz defeated former national qualifier and No. 27-ranked by FloWrestling Carson DesRosier with a takedown in the final moments of the match, 4-1. Redshirt freshman Darius Marines improved to 4-0 in duals this season with an 8-3 decision over Jacob Silka that put MSU back ahead by double digits, 18-8.
The Citadel took the 165-pound match by decision, bringing the team score to 18-11. Graduate 174-pounder Connor O'Neill sealed the dual victory for Michigan State with his 2-1 decision over Braxton Russell that put the Spartans in front 21-11.
