Men's Tennis Travels to Face Ball State

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's tennis team hits the road for the first time this 2011 season when it travels to Muncie, Ind., to face the Cardinals of Ball State on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 1 p.m. The Spartans are currently ranked No. 49 in the latest ITA rankings, and have posted a 9-1 record in dual matches this season.
MSU fell in its only match of the season last Saturday to then-No. 25 Notre Dame, 5-2. The Spartans posted a 6-1 victory over Marquette the previous afternoon, Friday Feb. 11. The Green and White has enjoyed success from freshman Aaron Pfister, who has gone a perfect 8-0 in singles play at the No. 5 spot. Sophomore Denis Bogatov and junior Ronnie Hulewicz have led the way for MSU at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, respectively. Bogatov is 5-2 and Hulewicz is a perfect 7-0. Seniors Austin Brooks and John Stratton have been consistent in the No. 3 and 4 slots, combining for an 11-3 record in singles play.
The Cardinals of Ball State are currently 6-1 on the season, with their only loss coming to then-No. 59 Northwestern in their first match of the season. Sophomore Dalton Albertin has been the leader for the Cardinals at No. 1 singles, earning a 6-1 overall record on the season, and was named MAC Player of the Week last week after capturing victories over Valparaiso and IUPUI.
The Spartans continue action next weekend when they host their fourth doubleheader of the season, as Detroit and Valparaiso visit East Lansing on Saturday, Feb. 26. MSU is set to face Detroit at 10 a.m., and Valparaiso at 4 p.m. Both matches will be held at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.
