Spartan Men’s Tennis Set For Big Ten Tournament Battle In Ojai, Calif.

Michigan State enters the tournament in the quarterfinals as the No. 1 seed, opens action Thursday.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State men's tennis is set for battle at the Big Ten Tournament, starting on Thursday, April 23, at 12 p.m. ET/9 a.m. PT at Libbey Park in Ojai, Calif.
Earning the No. 1 seed after clinching part of the Big Ten title in the regular season, the Spartans are hungry for more action. The first match for the Spartans will be in the quarterfinals, against the winner of the match between No. 9-seed Indiana and No. 8-seed Oregon.
Michigan State ended the regular season with an overall record of 15-8 and a conference record of 12-1. They stand 2-2 in neutral-site matches this season.
MSU is coming off winning its first Big Ten regular-season championship on Sunday, capping off an exciting day of Senior Celebrations with the B1G Co-Champions trophy, as Michigan State tied with Ohio State for the title.

The last match-up between the Spartans and the Ducks was April 5, in Eugene, Ore. The Spartans were able to get an early lead with the doubles point, and aim to do the same ahead of Thursday's match. After taking the doubles point, MSU earned three more singles victories to take an overall lead of 4-0.

The Hoosiers are ranked at No. 66 in the nation with an overall record of 10-12 and a conference record of 4-9. The last time the Hoosiers and the Spartans faced each other was April 17, in East Lansing at the MSU Outdoor Tennis Courts. Indiana came out strong and took the doubles point to get an early lead. The Spartans earned a comeback in singles, earning four victories to claim an overall, 4-1 win over the Hoosiers. Looking ahead, the Spartans aim to grab an early lead to give them momentum ahead of singles.
Looking ahead to the semifinals, Michigan State could face either No. 4 USC or No. 5 UCLA. The semifinal match is slated for Friday, April 24, at 3 p.m. ET/12 p.m. PT.
