SEATTLE, Wash. - The Michigan State gymnastics team traveled to Seattle, Wash., to face No. 15 Washington on Friday, March 4. The Spartans competed strong, however were unable to pull out the win, falling to the Huskies 196.075 to 193.075.
The Green and White had three gymnasts all record identical 9.725 marks on the vault. Senior Nicole Argiros, junior Daneen Haba and freshman Dani Levy tied for the team lead for the event. Amanda Cline led the Huskies with a 9.925 while Haley Bogart and Lauren Rogers followed in second and third, respectively. Bogart posted a 9.875 while Rogers had a 9.850. UW took home top team honors for the event with a 49.275 to 48.425 differential.
Junior Jackie Berg led MSU once again on the uneven bars with her score of 9.750. Berg's mark placed her fourth on the event. Samantha Wailor posted a 9.850 to win the event. Ruby Engreitz followed with a 9.825 for second and Rogers was third with a 9.775. Washington edged the Spartans by a score of 48.875 to 48.350.
Senior Kelsey Morley paced Michigan State with score of 9.850 on the balance beam to tie for first place. Walior and Haley Bogart led Washington, placing first and third, respectively. Walior finished with a 9.850 while Bogart posted a 9.825. MSU trailed the Huskies on the beam, 48.775 to 48.450.
Sophomore Shanthi Teike was the top Spartan on the floor exercise with 9.725 score. Engreitz, Paige Bizler and Walior all tied for first 9.850 marks. UW topped the Green and White on the floor, 49.150-47.750.
Engreitz led the all-arounders in first with a 39.200 score. Aliza Vaccher placed second (38.925) while Levy led MSU in third, tallying a score of 37.200.
The Spartans close out their 2011 season when they travel to Norman, Okla., for their final dual of the season on Friday, March 11. The competition is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. ET.
