
Wrestling Earns NWCA All-Academic Team Honors

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State Spartan wrestling team, led by head coach Tom Minkel, has been recognized for its achievements in the classroom by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA). The Spartans earned All-Academic Team honors by placing among the top 30 teams in the nation according to cumulative GPA (2.9908). Curran Jacobs was also awarded individual All-Academic accolades.
Jacobs, a junior and Michigan State's starter at 174 pounds, was selected to the NWCA All-Academic Team for the 2010-11 season. Jacobs is majoring in theatre, with aspirations of pursuing a career in the film industry. He also earned Academic All-Big Ten honors. Along with his hard work in the classroom, Jacobs was a leader this past season for the Spartan wrestling team. Jacobs led the team in wins with 25, and placed seventh in the Big Ten Championships. Jacobs was also a NCAA qualifier and upset No.11 Austin Meys of Lehigh in the first round before falling in his next two matches. Jacobs will be counted on in his senior season to continue in his leadership role.
