
Wrestling Announces 2011-12 Schedule

EAST LANSING, Mich. - MSU head coach Tom Minkel has announced the 2011-12 Spartan wrestling schedule for the upcoming season.
The Spartans kick off the season at the Eastern Michigan Open in Ypsilanti on Saturday, Nov. 5. MSU returns home the following weekend and hosts the Michigan State Open on Saturday, Nov. 12 at Jenison Field House. Just two weeks after the EMU Open, Michigan State squares off against Eastern Michigan on Nov. 18 at home for its first non-conference dual.
December begins a long month away from home for the Spartans; they compete in three duals and one tournament, all on the road. First off MSU travels to Pennsylvania to take on both Lock Haven (12:00 p.m.) and Bucknell (7:00 p.m.) at their respective campuses, Saturday, Dec. 3. Following that comes a matchup in West Lafayette, Ind., where the Spartans open up the Big Ten season against Purdue, Friday, Dec. 9. Next the Spartans travel west to Reno, Nev., to compete in the Reno Tournament of Champions on Sunday, Dec. 18.
To start the New Year, Michigan State returns home to host the defending NCAA champion Penn State Nittany Lions on Sunday, Jan. 8. at Jenison Field House. After a non-conference dual against West Virginia at home on Jan. 13, the Spartans will resume Big Ten play with a meet against Indiana on Sunday, Jan. 15 at Jenison Field House.
The Green and White then head to Illinois to face Northwestern on Jan. 20 and Illinois on Jan. 22.
Michigan State will welcome Nebraska into the Big Ten and into East Lansing Friday, Jan. 27 at Jenison Field House. Concluding the Big Ten regular season, MSU will travel to Ann Arbor to face rival Michigan Sunday, Jan. 29, and then will close with Ohio State at home Sunday, Feb. 5.
The Spartans then travel to Edinboro, Pa., to face Edinboro on Friday, Feb. 10 and then will compete in the Edinboro Open on Feb. 11. Michigan State closes its dual season at Central Michigan Feb. 16.
The Big Ten Championships will be held the weekend of March 3-4 at Purdue in West Lafayette, Ind. The NCAA Championships will be held in St. Louis, Mo., March 15-17.
