Harris Earns McDonald's All-America Honors

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State men's basketball signee Gary Harris was named a McDonald's All-American on Thursday, Feb. 9. The prep senior at Hamilton Southeastern High School in Fishers, Ind., is the 11th recruit under MSU head coach Tom Izzo to earn McDonald's All-America honors. Harris will suit up for the East squad in the game at Chicago's United Center on March 28, becoming the 15th McDonald's All-American to play for Michigan State dating back to 1977.
The 6-4 Harris is ranked No. 11 nationally by Scout.com and No. 11 in the ESPNU 100. He is averaging 24.8 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.6 steals and 3.8 assists on the season, leading Hamilton Southeastern to a 16-2 record and a No. 1 state ranking in Class 4A.
Harris will join 2010 All-American Keith Appling and 2011 All-American Branden Dawson on next year's Spartan squad. Other McDonald's All-Americans under head coach Tom Izzo include Mateen Cleaves (1996), Jason Richardson (1999), Marcus Taylor (2000), Zach Randolph (2000), Kelvin Torbert (2001), Paul Davis (2002), Shannon Brown (2003) and Brandon Cotton (2003). Earvin "Magic" Johnson (1977), Sam Vincent (1981), Matt Steigenga (1988) and Jon Garavaglia (1993) round out MSU's all-time list.
