EAST LANSING, Mich. - In its final tournament before next week's Big Ten Championship, the Michigan State men's golf team heads to West Lafayette, Ind. for the Boilermaker Invitational this weekend. Play begins with shotgun starts on both Saturday (36 holes) and Sunday (18 holes) at 8:45 a.m. ET at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex's Kampen Course (par 72, 7,465 yards).
"This is an important week for us to build momentum for the postseason," said first-year Spartan head coach Casey Lubahn. "Our guys have been close to putting together some good rounds together and I believe our week was more focused than any we have had all spring. We are going to be more aggressive in our decision making and committed to our lines into the green.
"Purdue's course is a great test and very similar to what we will see next week at the Big Ten Championships."
In addition to MSU and Purdue, the Boilermaker field will include Akron, Bowling Green, Creighton, Drake, Eastern Michigan, No. 35 Illinois, No. 43 Indiana, No. 25 Iowa, No. 21 Kent State, Loyola (Ill.), Miami (Ohio), Northern Illinois, No. 34 TCU, Toledo, No. 30 Wichita State and Wisconsin.
The Spartan lineup this weekend will be senior Chris Mory, juniors Dan and Dave Ellis, and Matthew Moseley, and freshman McCormick Clouser. The four upperclassmen have been staples of the spring lineup, appearing in all five events, while Clouser returns to the mix after not playing last weekend.
Dan Ellis has led MSU throughout the season, posting a team-best 72.6 scoring average, while having three top-5 and four top-10 outings. Mory has also been solid, carding a 72.8 average in his final season, including four top-10 finishes. Mory has also had great success at the Kampen Course, tying for fifth at last year's Big Ten Championship in West Lafayette.
Michigan State finished eighth last weekend at the Hawkeye Invitational, led by an 18th place showing by Moseley.
