No. 19/21 Michigan State Routs Loyola Chicago, 90-38, Sunday

CHICAGO (AP) - Aerial Powers had 14 points, 14 rebounds, five assists and a career-high three blocks while Becca Mills tied a career-high to lead No. 19 Michigan State to a 90-38 rout at Loyola Chicago on Sunday.
Michigan State used a 19-0 run to help build a 37-11 lead with 4:41 to play in the first half. An 11-4 run stretched the Spartans' lead to 48-15 at halftime.
Mills scored 22 points to lead the Spartans. Tori Jankoska and Lexi Gussert added 15 points, and Jasmine Lumpkin had nine points with 11 rebounds. Powers picked up her seventh double-double of the season.
It was the largest margin of victory for Michigan State (6-2), and the second by more than 40 points this season.
Taylor Johnson scored 14 points and had five steals to lead Loyola of Chicago (2-6). It was the first meeting between the schools.
Post-Game Notes
Michigan State's 90 points scored is tied for the ninth-most under head coach Suzy Merchant and the 10th time in Merchant's tenure that the Spartans have scored 90 or more points in a game, including the fifth time in the last two seasons.
MSU's 52-point margin of victory was the largest since a 53-point win over North Carolina A&T (113-60) on Nov. 12, 2011 ... It was also the fourth-largest under Merchant.
Michigan State's 90 points Sunday were a season-high, as well as the second time topping the 80-point plateau this season, joining the 85 points against Miami (Ohio) on Nov. 30, and most points since 91 vs. Hampton on March 23, 2014.
MSU's 48 points in the first half were a season-high for not just most points scored in the first half but most points in any half.
Michigan State's 48 first-half points were most in a half since 61 against Canisius on Nov. 14, 2013, and the 33 point first-half lead was largest since a 39-point lead in that same Canisius game (61-22) ... The Spartans' 15 first-half points allowed by the Ramblers was the fewest yielded since 11 against IPFW on Dec. 16, 2012.
MSU's largest lead of the game of 52 was also the Spartans' largest of the season, topping the 46-point lead against Miami (Ohio) (11/30).
The Spartans are now 54-17 (.761) following a loss under head coach Suzy Merchant, including 2-0 this season.
Michigan State has won 108 of its last 109 games when leading with five minutes left, including winning 59 in a row.
MSU out-rebounded LUC, 51-26 ... The +25 rebounding margin is the largest of the season and the second time with +20 or more ... Michigan State has out-rebounded all eight of its opponents this season, and MSU has out-rebounded the opposition in 107 of its last 132 (.811) ... The Spartans entered the game leading the Big Ten and ranking 15th in the NCAA in rebounding margin (+12.4).
MSU is now 157-89 (.638) all-time in the month of December, including 40-19 (.678) under Merchant ... The Spartans are also now 5-1 in known games played on Dec. 14.
Michigan State shot a season-best 83.3 percent (15-18) at the free throw line.
The Spartans shot 52.3 percent (34-65) for their second-highest field goal percentage of the season and second time making more than half their shots, joining the 53.0 percent (35-66) against Miami (Ohio) on Nov. 30.
MSU made 56.7 percent (17-30) for its best second-half shooting of the season.
The Spartans' 36.8 percent (7-19) three-point shooting was their second-best outing of the season, behind a 44.4 percent (8-18) effort behind the arc against Miami (Ohio).
The Spartans started the same starting line-up on Sunday that they had in their previous seven games consisting of of sophomore guard Tori Jankoska, senior guard Anna Morrissey, freshman guard Jasmine Lumpkin, redshirt-sophomore forward Aerial Powers and senior forward Becca Mills ... Mills started for the 77th time in her career, while Powers made her 41st career start and Jankoska started her 25th game of her career ... Morrissey and Lumpkin both made their eighth-consecutive starts of their careers.
Mills tied her career-high with 22 points, matching 22 at Illinois (2/5/14).
Jankoska moved up to sole possession of No. 13 on MSU's career three-pointer list with her three treys Sunday to give her 83 for her career, passing Porsche Poole's 82 three-pointers (2008-12) ... Jankoska netted multiple three-pointers for the fifth-straight game and seventh time this season.
Powers logged her seventh double-double in the eight games this season with her 14 points and 14 rebounds ... It was Powers' 17th career double-double.
Powers also had a career-high three blocks Sunday, topping her previous career-best of two rejections, done twice earlier this season as part of eight previous times in her career, most recently vs. Miami (Ohio) on Nov. 30.
MSU is now 6-0 this season when Powers leads the team in rebounding.
Powers and Jankoska netted double-digit points for the eighth time this season in as many games, as well as the 31st game in their careers with Powers' 14 points and Jankoska's 15 points.
Lumpkin pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds, topping her previous career-best of six boards in the first half with eight rebounds in the first 20 minutes ... Lumpkin, who is one of four Spartans from Illinois and had a large contingent of fans, also swiped a career-high three steals and played a career-high 32 minutes
Freshman guard Lexi Gussert not only scored a career-high 15 points, she made her first three-pointer as a Spartan, finishing the game with three treys, and tied her career-best with four assists, all while playing a career-high 24 minutes.
Freshman forward Kennedy Johnson tied a career-high with five rebounds while playing a career-high 18 minutes.
Senior guard Anna Morrissey, who is another of the four Illinois natives on the MSU roster and also had a large cheering section in attendance, scored seven points in playing 37 minutes, for her fifth game this season with seven or more points and she has played in at least 35 minutes in all eight games this season.
MSU is now 1-0 against Loyola Chicago, as Sunday was the first meeting between the two teams.
