EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State field hockey senior Heather Howie has been selected to the Scottish Senior Squad, as announced by Scottish Hockey.
Howie, a native of Glasgow, Scotland, competed on Scotland's U21 team last summer, and will join her sister, Allison, on the Senior Squad upon graduation from MSU in December.
She has competed for Scotland's U16, U18 and U21 teams, and had the opportunity to be a part of the Scotland development squad, which played a series of matches in France, England and Wales this past summer.
The midfielder will play alongside her sister, Allison, who played in her 50th match for Scotland last summer. Wake Forest's Aileen Davies and Syracuse's Leigh Fawcett are also on the team. In February, the Senior Squad will travel to South Africa for a training trip.
"Heather has been committed to Scottish Hockey while pursuing her degree at Michigan State over the past four and a half years, and that commitment has paid off with her selection to the Senior Squad," said head coach Helen Knull. "She spent her summers in Scotland training and playing with her age group before returning to MSU for preseason each year."
Howie was granted a medical redshirt in 2014, and returned in August for her final season in the Green and White. The Spartan captain has started all 14 games for Michigan State, recording four goals and five assists for 13 points, second-best on the team.
"Reflecting back on Heather's time at MSU, her hard work and commitment to get better has paid off as her game and leadership abilities have grown and developed, making her a key player for the Spartans," said Knull. "She will be an asset for Scottish Hockey, and I am excited to watch her career grow in the months to come."
