EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State sophomore forward Sophie Macadre has been named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference on Monday, Oct. 6.
The Wellington, New Zealand, native was a key component to the Spartans' weekend, leading the team offensively with four goals and two assists over two games at Ralph Young Field.
"Sophie had a breakout weekend for the Spartans," said head coach Helen Knull. "She has the ability to be a huge threat upfront and has gained the confidence to take risks in the attacking 50."
Macadre recorded a career-high three goals against at home against Rutgers on Friday, Oct. 2. The redshirt sophomore also tallied an assist on junior Megan Fenton's game-winning goal that was scored with 11.2 seconds left in double overtime to secure the first Big Ten win of the season for the Spartans.
The forward earned her spot in the starting lineup against Pacific on Sunday, Oct. 4, where she scored MSU's first goal of the game and her fourth goal of the weekend. She was also credited with an assist on senior Mallory Tyler's goal to put the Spartans up 2-0.
Macadre has appeared in all 12 games for the Spartans, starting six contests and recording a team-high 17 points on the season.
The conference honor is the first of Macadre's career, and the first weekly Big Ten award Michigan State has received since Abby Barker was named offensive player of the week on Oct. 28, 2014.
"This is a well-deserved award for Sophie and the team," said Knull.
Up next, the Spartans will play host to Indiana on Friday, Oct. 9 at 3 p.m. at Ralph Young Field.
