Brad Fast Named Director of Hockey Operations

EAST LANSING - Michigan State hockey head coach Tom Anastos announced today (Sept. 21) that former Spartan hockey captain Brad Fast has joined the program as the director of hockey operations. Fast replaces Phil Osaer, who has taken a position with USA Hockey.
"We're extremely excited to have Brad Fast as a part of our program," Anastos said. "As an All-American and Academic All-American at Michigan State, Brad set a high standard of excellence that he has carried throughout his professional career.
"Brad is great Spartan, and will be a terrific addition to our staff."
"I am very excited and feel very fortunate to again be a part of the Michigan State University hockey program and am looking forward to working with Coach Anastos, Coach Newton and Coach Miller," Fast said. "I cherished my days here as a player, and I'm excited to be back at Munn to help the Spartans compete for championships."
Following his playing career, Fast has been involved in hockey skill development and coaching from the learn-to-play to the professional level. He has served as the owner and head skills coach of Elevation Hockey as well as the director of the Lansing Hockey Club. He founded East Lansing-based Elevation Hockey in 2011, which is a training organization that mentors players of all ages to enhance their skills and performance. As hockey director of the Lansing Hockey Club, Fast oversaw selection and education of coaches as well as planning the development of individual and team advancement.
As a player at Michigan State from 1999-2003, Fast compiled 114 career points in 164 games. He helped lead MSU to the Frozen Four in 2001, while as a senior and team captain, he garnered both All-America and Academic All-America honors and was also named the CCHA's Best Defensive Defenseman. Fast's team-leading 35 assists in 2002-03 rank as the seventh-highest single-season total by a defenseman in school history. Additionally, he was selected as the winner of the Dr. James Feurig Achievement and Service Award, honoring an MSU senior student-athlete who carries a minimum 3.0 GPA and is active in community service initiatives.
Fast, who was drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes in the third round of the 1999 NHL Draft, played one season for the club and a total of eight seasons professionally. After the AHL, he moved overseas and played in Switzerland, Austria, Germany and Asia.
Fast, a native of Fort St. John, British Columbia, earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in general management and psychology from MSU in 2003. He and his wife, Lindsay, and their three children reside in East Lansing.
