Lock Haven Edges Spartans, 18-15

Mitch Rogaliner won his second straight dual match with a 9-3 decision on Friday night at Lock Haven.
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. â€" Lock Haven rallied to defeat the Michigan State wrestling team, 18-15, Friday night at Thomas Fieldhouse on the campus of Lock Haven University. Both teams claimed five matches in the dual, but bonus points proved to be the difference.
With the dual tied at 15, LHU's Brad Emerick won the decisive match at heavyweight over Dimitrus Renfroe, 3-0, to seal the comeback victory for the Bald Eagles (8-9).
A three-match winning streak beginning at 165 pounds put the Spartans (1-13) on top 15-11 with two matches to go, but the Bald Eagles claimed the final two bouts in the 18-15 win. Lock Haven's Phil Sprenkle tied the dual at 15 following his 11-0 major decision against Jacob Cooper at 197 pounds, forcing the outcome on the heavyweight class.
Mitch Rogaliner opened the night with a 9-3 decision over Jake Field at 125 pounds, but LHU quickly tied it back up at 3 following Bobby Rehm's 8-7 victory against Garth Yenter at 133.
Javier Gasca, ranked No. 21 in the NCAA coaches' rankings, delivered a strong 9-3 win at 141 pounds vs. Cody Wheeler.
Lock Haven bounced back to take an 11-6 lead with victories at 149 and 157 pounds, as Dan Neff recorded a technical fall over Kaelan Richards, 23-8 at the 6:04 mark, and Aaron McKinney shut out Mark Bozzo, 4-0.
The Spartans stormed back with three straight victories at 165, 174 and 184 to reclaim the lead at 15-11. Dean Vettese got the run going by winning his second consecutive dual with a 9-2 decision over Cody Cordes at 165 pounds. In his first career dual at 174 pounds, Travis Curley came away with a 4-0 shutout win against Tyler Wood, and Shwan Shadaia won his second straight dual with an 8-2 triumph against Tristian Sponseller at 184.
Michigan State returns to action Saturday to face No. 1 Penn State at 7 p.m. in University Park, Pennsylvania. The dual will be streamed live on BTN2Go.
