PISCATAWAY, N.J.-The Michigan State women's gymnastics team finished second in a quad meet at Rutgers with Cornell and Ursinus College on Saturday night at The RAC in Piscataway, N.J. The Spartans finished with a team score of 194.050, while Rutgers came away with the win with a 194.875. Cornell finished third with 193.525 and Urinus College scored 191.350.
Senior Nicola Deans had a career night to highlight the Spartans, winning the all-around competition with a career-best score of 39.250. Her best event of the night came on the floor in which she won and registered another career-high 9.900. Deans also tied for first on the vault (9.800), tied for second on bars (9.800) and tied for ninth on beam (.9.750).
Junior Lindsey Lemke was another Spartan to pick up an event win, scoring a 9.825 on bars.
"We were a little disappointed tonight overall in terms of the fact we feel we gave away another win because of the falls and errors," said head coach Kathie Klages. "However, there were also some great high points to the competition. Nicola's performance was a career-best. Molly Hoerner O'Malley also had a great meet, so we are really excited about what she brought to the team. She has had to step up and fill a role with some injuries and has done a fabulous job."
MSU's highest scoring event of the night was a 48.875 on beam. Horner O'Mally led the way with a career-best 9.850 to finish third in the event, followed by Alexandra Hoyer, who finished fifth with a 9.800.
The Spartans remain on the road next weekend when they travel to Penn State to take on the Nittany Lions on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 4:00 p.m. ET.
