Field Hockey Set for Clash Against Rival Michigan

The Wolverines are on a one game losing streak, but are winners of three of their last five games. Last week, Michigan defeated Iowa, 2-1, before losing to Stanford, 4-2. Michigan has wins over four ranked teams in 2018. Michigan leads the all-time series with MSU, 40-26-7.
The Spartans are 12-17-2 when playing the Wolverines in East Lansing. Michigan are winners of four straight over MSU.
Last Week
MSU dropped a pair of contests last week, falling to Indiana, 1-0, and Louisville by a final score of 4-1. Against Louisville, senior Bailey Higgins scored her first career goal. Her goal came in the 56th minute following a penalty corner opportunity. Higgins inserted the ball on the corner which set up a shot for freshman Isa van der Weij. After van der Weij's shot was saved, Higgins was there to collect the rebound and score.
Scouting the Spartans
Isa van der Weij leads the team with 10 points on the year (4g - 2a). Aisha Osinga has two goals and two assists. Madison O'Neill is third on the team in points with four on one goal and two assists. Kelsey Keener and Bailey Higgins each have three points following Higgins' first career goal last week.
Maddie McDonough, Amanda Robinson, Makenzie Brown, and Daphne Voorman each have one goal. Lia Sinisi, Maggie Cole and Cara Bonshak each have an assist.
Freshman goalkeeper Jade Arundell has made 15 starts in goal for MSU with a .661 save percentage and 2.75 goals against average. Arundell's 5.53 saves per game ranks No. 22 in the country. Her 5.53 saves per game ranks No. 1 in the Big Ten.
Scouting the Wolverines
Emma Way leads the team in scoring with 31 points on 14 goals and three assists. Way ranks No. 7 nationally in goals per game with 1.00 and No. 8 in points per game with 2.21. Way tops the Big Ten in both categories. As a team, the Wolverines rank No. 17 in goals per game with 2.86.
Meg Dowthwaite is second on the team in scoring with seven goals and three assists, good for 17 points. Guadalupe Fernandez Lacort leads the team in assists with four.
In 11 starts, goalkeeper Anna Spieker is 7-4 with a 1.70 goals against average on a .731 save percentage. Spieker ranks No. 24 nationally in save percentage and No. 29 in goals against average. Spieker's goals against average ranks No. 7 in the Big Ten and her save percentage ranks No. 4.
In her 19th season, head coach Marcia Pankratz owns a career coaching record of 284-125.
