Spartans in Third After Two Rounds of the Clemson Invitational

SUNSET, South Carolina - The 11th-ranked Michigan State women's golf team is in third place after two rounds of play at the Clemson Invitational in Sunset, South Carolina. The Spartans shot a 4-under-par 284 in Saturday's second round at The Reserve at Lake Keowee and are 15-under-par 561 (277-284) for the tournament. MSU is two shots behind host Clemson (559) and 11 strokes back of tournament leader No. 7 Furman (550), which pushed ahead of the field with a 15-under-par 273 on Saturday. The Spartans are five shots ahead of fourth-place Ohio State.
Senior Sarah Burnham and sophomore Allyson Geer are tied for third place at 7-under-par 137. Geer shot a 2-under par 70 on Saturday. After an even front nine, Geer birdied the 10th and 11th holes and played par golf the rest of the way.
Burnham was 1-over-par on the front nine and then picked up two birdies on the back to card a 1-under-par 71 on Saturday.
Sophomore Paz Marfa Sans matched Geer for the lowest round by a Spartan on Saturday with a 2-under-par 70. Marfa Sans moved into the top 20 as she is tied for 19th place at 2-under-par 142.
Senior Katie Sharp fired a 2-over-par 74 on Saturday and is tied for 35th at 2-over-par 146.
Freshman Yurika Tanida improved her first-round score by one stroke on Saturday, carding a 1-over-par 73. She's 3-over-par 147 for the tournament and tied for 42nd place.
Sunday's third and final round at the 6,260-yard course will begin for the Spartans at 9:30 a.m.
