SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GOPHERS
Minnesota (5-4-0, 1-1-0) heads into East Lansing after a Big Ten opening-weekend split at home, the end of a seven-game homestand. The Gophers lost 2-0 to Illinois (Sept. 14), before securing a 2-0 win over No. 12 Northwestern last time out Sept. 16.
Ten different Gophers have found the back of the net this season, led by senior forward April Bockin, who has scored three goals to go along with three assists.
Minnesota holds a narrow lead in the all-time series with MSU at 13-12-2. The Gophers won last year's meeting in Minneapolis, 7-1.
Â
SAXTON SAYS
"Minnesota is always a team that's ready to play. I expect the very best from them heading out on the road after a long homestand. I know they have high expectations for their team this year and were disappointed to lose the conference opener. They got some momentum against Northwestern and will come in here on a high. We're going to have to make sure we are at our very best."
