Carlin, Pero Set to Compete at ITA Midwest Regional in Columbus

EAST LANSING – Two Michigan State men's tennis student-athletes are set to compete in the ITA Midwest Regional Championship in Columbus, Ohio, scheduled for Oct. 17-21 at the OSU Varsity Tennis Center
Junior John Carlin will be joined by sophomore Anthony Pero at the Midwest Regional. Pero, from Allen Park, Mich., opens play tomorrow in singles qualifying. Pero receives a first-round bye and will take on the winner of Tamas Zador (DePaul) and Lachlan Napier (Wisconsin-Green Bay).
Carlin, who is coming off a 4-4 weekend at the Beeman Invite in East Lansing last weekend, will compete in the 64-man main draw against the 10-seed Tristan McCormick of Illinois. Main draw action kicks off on Friday, Oct. 18 at the Varsity Tennis Center.
In doubles main draw play, Carlin and Pero will face off against Michigan's Harrison Brown and Kristofer Siimar, beginning Friday. Times for tournament matches will be announced later tonight.Â
Carlin and Pero have combined for 12 wins on the season, holding singles records of 5-3 and 4-4, respectively. The pair have competed in two tournaments this fall, the Farnsworth-Ivy Plus Invite in Princeton, N.J. and Michigan State's own Beeman invite.
