
Spartans Face Oklahoma, Kent State in Tri-Meet

The Spartans are set to compete in their first dual meets of the season.
East Lansing, Mich. - Michigan State wrestling returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 16 when they travel to Kent, Ohio for a tri-meet with Kent State and No. 19 Oklahoma inside Kent State's MAC Center.

Saturday's meet will begin at Noon and will feature two mats going at the same time in a scramble format. The meet will include three flights throughout the day. All of the action will be streamed live through FloWrestling.

"We have spoken openly as a program about taking the next step and continuing to build upon what has been accomplished the last few years," MSU head coach Roger Chandler said. "These guys are hungry and ready to make their mark."

About the Spartans
MSU enters the weekend ranked No. 29 after hosting the MSU Open on Nov. 2. The Spartans were well represented at the Open, with seven wrestlers finishing in the top-6 of the final results. Redshirt sophomore Cameron Caffey, who ranks No. 17 at 184 pounds, finished with a 4-2 record and a fifth place finish. Redshirt junior Jake Tucker comes in with a No. 16-ranking at 157 pounds and finished fourth with a 5-1 record.

Freshmen Jordan Crace (Marysville, Ohio/Bellefontaine) and Jordan Hamdan (Hudson, Mich./Hudson) combined for eight wins at the MSU Open and Hamdan claimed a title at 141 pounds in the freshman/sophomore division with a 4-0 record.

Christian Rebottaro (285) and Rayvon Foley (125) rank No. 30 and No. 6 in the latest rankings, respectively.

"These dual meets against Kent State and Oklahoma are very important to kick off our dual meet season," said Chandler. "There is no doubt we have to be ready to compete, as both programs have talented wrestlers up and down the lineup. We have a great opportunity Saturday and need to take full advantage of it. If we stay true to ourselves and what we are capable of doing, which is scoring points, then good things will happen."

The Golden Flashes are 2-1 on the season with wins over Ashland (37-6) and Mercyhust Northeast (52-0). Kent State recently competed in the Mountaineer Invitational in Boone, N.C. and produced five top-three finishes, including a pair of tournament titles from Andrew McNally (174) and Tyler Bates (184).

MSU fell to Kent State, 18-17, at the South Beach Duals in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. on Dec. 30, 2018. The Spartans hold a 10-8 advantage in the all-time series.Â

Scouting Oklahoma
The Sooners rank No. 20 in the latest team rankings and are led by the No. 2-ranked wrestler at 141 pounds, Dom Demas. Anthony Madrigal ranks No. 12 at 133 pounds and Anthony Mantanona comes into the weekend with a No. 28 rankings at 174 pounds.

Oklahoma holds a 38-9 advantage all-time against the Spartans. Oklahoma claimed a 21-8 win in their last matchup on Feb. 15, 2009. MSU's last win over the Sooners came on Feb. 2, 2003 (24-14).
