Spartans Break Varsity Record On Final Day Of US Open

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan State swimming and diving teams wrapped up their final day at the 2019 Toyota U.S. Open in McCauley Pool.
Ten Spartans traveled this weekend, with six in competition on the Saturday.
A outstanding performance this weekend came from freshman Emma Inch. Inch set two new lifetime bests and broke two varsity records, including today's 1500 freestyle where she clocked a time of 17:18.24.
Freshman Kasey Venn and sophomore Jonathan Lee competed in the 200 breaststroke. Venn posted a time of 2:37.28, while Lee clocked a time of 2:23.02.
In the 200 breaststroke B Flight, redshirt junior Phillip Meffert recorded a time of 2:23.55 and freshman Travis Nitkiewicz touched the pad at 2:25.06.
Senior Scott Piper, in this third event of the of the weekend, finished with a time of 2:04.41 in the 200 butterfly.
The Spartans will come back after the new year for their next competition against Big Ten opponent Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind. at 4 p.m.
