
Spartans Win Streak Halted at Penn State

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The Michigan State wrestling team's five dual winning-streak ended on Friday, February 15 as the Spartans were defeated by No. 1-ranked Penn State by a final score of 37-10.
With a loss Michigan State falls to 9-7 on the season and 3-5 in the Big Ten with the final conference dual of the season coming up on Sunday, February 17 against No. 20-ranked Purdue. Penn State improved to 12-0 overall and is now 8-0 in conference action.
Sophomore Rayvon Foley got things started for Michigan State at 125 pounds, earning a 14-5 major decision over Devin Schnupp. With a win over Schnupp, Foley matched his season win total of 28 from a year ago and is now 28-2 on the season with a 15-1 record in duals.
Foley was aggressive on offense in the bout, taking Schnupp down five times.
Michigan State put three more points on the board at 133 with redshirt senior Anthony Tutolo defeating Scott Stossel, 4-1. Stossel filled in for usual starter, No. 11-ranked Roman Bravo-Young, who was away from the team for the evening.
Penn State rattled off five straight victories to take a 26-7 over the Spartans heading into 184 pounds. The Nittany Lions picked up maximum bonus points in three straight bouts with falls at 157 and 165 pounds, and a disqualification at 174 pounds for stalling.
No. 15-ranked Cameron Caffey got Michigan State back onto the scoresheet with a 6-4 decision over Mason Manville. Caffey is now 26-3 on the season and 13-3 in duals.
The Nittany Lions added bonus points at each of the final two weights to secure a 37-10 victory over MSU. Top ranked Bo Nickal was a winner by fall at 197 pounds, pinning redshirt freshman Brad Wilton in 35 seconds. Redshirt freshman Chase Beard was defeated at heavyweight by technical fall, 21-6, in 6:06.
