Women’s Tennis Completes Weekend Sweep with 6-1 Victory over Dartmouth

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team completed a weekend sweep with a 6-1 victory, on Sunday morning at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility. The team is now 8-4 on the season and an undefeated 5-0 at home.
"I think overall it was a great, solid team performance," MSU head coach Kim Bruno said. "We really gritted some things out, we came together, the girls fired each other up. We looked like the better team and those moments that we've talked about; That's all we can ask for."
The Spartans took an early 1-0 lead as they secured the doubles point with wins on courts one and two.
Junior Samantha Memije and freshman Nicole Stephens put the Spartans in the running for the doubles point with a 6-3 victory over Nina Paripovic and Jingyi Peng, at No. 2 doubles.
The doubles point was clinched on court one as senior Emily Metcalf and freshman Maja Pietrowicz downed Abigail Chiu and Racquel Lyn, 6-3. The duo is now 9-1 at No. 1 doubles this season and have won five-straight matches.
Memije kept things rolling for the Spartans as she secured a straight-set 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles over Chiu.
Senior Davina Nguyen followed suit as she defeated Allison McCann 6-0, 6-4, on court six.
The match was clinched at No. 4 singles, as Pietrowicz downed Chuyang Guan, 6-3, 6-2.
Stephens defeated Peng, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 5 singles for her tenth singles victory of the season. Metcalf fell to Paripovic, 6-4, 6-4, on court three.
Freshman Lauren Lemonds closed the match with a 7-6, 6-4 victory over Lyn.
"Hopefully the girls will build some confidence off that and now get us going for the rest of our season," Bruno said."Things are clicking right now and we've just got to keep moving forward."
The Spartans return to the court on Friday, March 1 as they host DePaul at 5 p.m. at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.
