Women’s Tennis To Host Wisconsin, Travel to Indiana This Weekend

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team continues Big Ten play this weekend with matches against Wisconsin and Indiana. MSU hosts the Badgers on Friday, March 22 at 5 p.m., before taking to the road for a match up with the Hoosiers on Sunday, March 24 at 11 a.m.
Wisconsin leads the all-time series history 43-12, while Indiana leads 46-5-1.
In the Spartans' last meeting with each team, MSU swept both opponents, defeating Indiana at home, 4-0, on March 23 and downing Wisconsin on the road, 6-1, on March 25.
MSU has proven to be successful in home matches, posting a 9-3 record last season in East Lansing. They've continued this tradition so far this season with an undefeated 8-0 record at home.
The Spartans are coming off a successful weekend of conference action,sweeping Iowa and Nebraska by 4-3 scores to improve to 2-1 in Big Ten play and 11-6 overall. The team currently sits fifth in the conference standings.
Freshman Maja Pietrowicz was named Big Ten Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week by the Big Ten Conference on Tuesday, March 19. The Clinton Township, Michigan native went 4-0 last weekend, securing two wins at No. 4 singles and two wins at No. 1 doubles. Pietrowicz is the first Spartan to receive the honor since Marina Bohrer on April 8, 2014.
The duo of senior Emily Metcalf and Pietrowicz are 12-2 at No. 1 doubles this spring and helped secure the deciding doubles point in the past two matches versus Iowa and Nebraska.
In singles play, senior Davina Nguyen and freshman Nicole Stephens are in double-digit win territory, followed by junior Samantha Memije with nine and Pietrowicz with eight.
The Spartans conclude the home portion of the season with matches against Ohio State and Penn State next weekend. The team will host the Buckeyes on Friday, March 29 at 5 p.m., followed by Penn State for Senior Day on Sunday, March 31 at 12 p.m.
