EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to Wisconsin on Friday evening at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility as the Spartans fall to 11-7 on the season and 2-2 in conference play.
"When the going gets tough and the tough gets going, we need to have more composure and handle things a little bit better and be up for the battle every time; That's what's going to consistently get us wins," MSU head coach Kim Bruno said. "Wisconsin came out ready to go and they had that, were well prepared and we just didn't. We have to learn from this. Indiana is going to be no different so let's handle that and let's get better."
The Spartans dropped the doubles point with the Badgers securing wins on courts one and two. At No. 2 doubles, junior Samantha Memije and Nicole Stephens fell to Ava Markham and Melissa Pick, 6-4.
The doubles point was clinched on court one as senior Emily Metcalf and freshman Maja Pietrowicz dropped a 7-5 decision to Lexi Keberle and Anna Makarova.
Senior Davina Nguyen and freshman Lauren Lemonds secured a 7-5 victory over Sara Castellano and Christina Zordani, picking up a win at No. 3 doubles for MSU.
The Badgers held a 1-0 lead going into singles and won the first three singles matches to clinch the match. Lemonds fell to Keberle, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2 singles and Nguyen dropped a 7-5, 6-3 decision to Makarova on court three.
The match was clinched on court four as Pietrowicz fell to Markham, 6-2, 6-4.
Michigan State closes out the weekend with a trip to Indiana on Sunday, March 24. The Spartans take on the Hoosiers at 11 a.m. in Bloomington, Indiana.
