Spartan Women's Tennis Drops 5-2 Decision at Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Michigan State women's tennis team fell on the road at Indiana, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon. The team is now 11-8 on the season and 2-3 in conference play.
The Spartans dropped the doubles point as the Hoosiers secured victories on courts two and three. Junior Samantha Memije and freshman Nicole Stephens fell to Natalie Whalen and Caitlin Bernard, 6-2, at No. 2 doubles. The doubles point was clinched on court three as senior Davina Nguyen and freshman Lauren Lemonds dropped a 6-3 decision against Michelle McKamey and Somer Henry.
Michigan State secured the first singles victory as Nguyen downed Caitlin Bernard in straight-sets, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.
Indiana then responded with the next four singles wins to clinch the match.
Memije fell to Appel, 6-1, 6-2 at first singles. Henry defeated Stephens, 6-4, 6-1 on court six.
The match was clinched at No. 5 singles as senior Emily Metcalf fell to McKamey, 6-3, 6-4.
Lemonds dropped a 6-2, 6-4 decision on court two versus Whalen.
Pietrowicz was up 7-6 (7-1), 6-2 against Jelly Bozovic, when Bozovic retired, resulting in a point for the Spartans.
The Spartans conclude the home portion of the season with matches against Ohio State and Penn State next weekend. The team will host the Buckeyes on Friday, March 29 at 5 p.m., followed by Penn State for Senior Day on Sunday, March 31 at 12 p.m.
